WT Customer Support
WT Automatic Vehicle Locator (WTAVL)
Wireless Telematics uses Java™ to develop its user interfaces and distributes them using the Internet in one of two formats:
Programs developed in Java can be executed on any computer platform, which makes it extremely powerful for developing Internet applications. Java allows WT to create dynamic programs for our customers to use when interacting with their wireless devices without being constrained to use a certain platform. So whether our clients use Linux, Macintosh or Windows they can access their WT devices. And because the applications are Internet based you do not have to install our software. All that is required to run our applications is to have Java installed on your computer. Typically, Java has already been installed on your computer but if you have an older version of Java and you want to upgrade or if your computer does not have Java installed then you need to visit the Java download website. Java is a product of Sun Microsystems, Inc and Java is a FREE download from the Sun website. The easiest way to download Java is to click on the following icon! You can visit www.java.com or java.sun.com to download and install Java. If you have visited the Java download website you may have noticed that there are a few different Java packages that you could install. The Java Plug-In, JRE or SDK. The Java Runtime Environment (JRE) This is the more complete of the Java installation packages and will allow you to run Java Applets (such as our WTAVL Tracking Interface Application), it will also allow Java stand-alone applications to execute on your computer and includes Java Web Start. Because of it’s increased functionality the download time will be longer than downloading just the Java Plug-In. If you don’t mind the longer download then we would recommend this installation. The Java Plug-In To run a Java Applet within your Internet browser’s user interface your browser will require a special plug-in. This plug-in will work for all the major browsers. (Netscape, Mozilla or Internet Explorer). The Java Standard Development Kit (SDK) This package contains development tools for programmers who write Java programs. You do not need this Java package. The next step is to choose the Java package that is compatible with your
OS (operating system). Most likely you are running Windows or Linux as
your OS. The final step is to select a version. Most likely you will not need
to choose a version because the download link should take you to the latest
released version of Java. |
